How will the Holtzhausen solid hardwood react to the UK climate?

Firstly: All the timber used by Holtzhausen is kiln (oven) dried. This basically means that the moisture remaining in the timber is so little, that it will not react to drier or wetter climates, by expanding or shrinking the timber with resulting bending or cracking. Secondly, with our 33 years experience, we do not use certain timbers that are “unstable”. Thirdly the cases are “made by hand” in such a way that all the panels rest in grooves as floating panels, allowing for natural movement of the hardwood without affecting the resonance of the clock case. Fourthly, we offer a 2year warranty on all our cases-if the hardwood is going to “play up”, it will do it within this period.

What about the Environment?

Welcome to our world of socio-environmental responsibility.

An interesting fact about Hardwood: The Hardwoods used in Holtzhausen clocks is bio-degradable unlike alternatives such as imitation veneers, compacted materials and plastics and requires less water than planted forests that are not indigenous to an area. If harvested responsibly, the ecological footprint is indeed smaller than most other pieces of furniture and/or décor.

Aside from being transparent and responsible in our use of Hardwoods, Holtzhausen also donates 2% of all our sales to www.trees.co.za
